West Ham United 1-2 Brentford: Bees stun Hammers with Wissa winner

Last update on.From section Premier League
After four away games, Brentford is the Premier League's first newcomer since Hull.

Yoane Wissa was a winner for Brentford, who continued their excellent start in the Premier League by winning the London derby at West Ham United.

Wissa scored a late equaliser against Liverpool eight day ago. It was achieved by a strong shot with almost the last kick of game, after the Hammers failed to clear a set-piece.

Bryan Mbeumo's goal early on looked decisive for the Bees. They now sit seventh in the table, leapfrogging their opponents who are currently ninth.

Thomas Frank's side was more than worthy of their lead. Mbeumo, a French forward, scored from close range after Sergicanos' attempt was blocked by Lukasz Fabianski, the home goalkeeper.

This was during a spell when the visitors held the sway. They combined an aerial threat with some slick soccer that cut the hosts open on many occasions.

Brentford seemed to be losing steam in the second period and had to fight back against a West Ham assault.

Jarrod Bowen missed a great chance to equalize when he headed Vladimir Coufal’s cross wide. The Czech full-back was also denied an equaliser by Bees goalkeeper David Raya’s impressive save.

London Stadium's home fans roared with joy when Bowen finally drove a low effort in the bottom right corner to level the score. However, they were stunned to see that Wissa's late strike had turned one point into three.

Lively Bees provide late sting

Much was made about West Ham's offensive power in the build-up to the game, with Bowen and Said Benrahma playing important roles in their side’s excellent start to the campaign.

Mbeumo, Ivan Toney, and Ivan Toney may have outperformed the Hammers' front three. They displayed the speed, pace, and quality that has already stretched many established top-flight defenses this term.

Frank will be proud that his team overcame Vitaly Janelt’s withdrawal during the warm-up and Shandon Baptiste’s shoulder injury in the first half to win their first match with West Ham in 28 years.

Early warning signs were evident for hosts Mbeumo cutting the cross bar of the hosts and heading wide from Rico Henry’s pinpoint cross within the first four minutes. Moments that saw Hammers boss David Moyes patrolling the technical area and giving instructions to his players.

Fabianski was also tested by Toney, who scored from close range. Canos then played a wonderful pass to Canos, breaking open the home defense.

After the break, West Ham continued to press forward and seemed more likely to score a late winner. However, Wissa struck with a devastating blow 12 minutes after he entered the action.

We will keep you posted.
