Brighton & Hove Albion 0-0 Arsenal: Wasteful Seagulls held by Gunners

Last update on.From section Premier League
Neal Maupay had scored in his two previous starts against Arsenal the winning goal, but he failed to score on Saturday.

Graham Potter, Brighton manager, said that Saturday's goalless draw against Arsenal at home was the best performance he has ever seen.

Graham Potter's team was more confident and comfortable in possession, but they failed to convert their first-half dominance into goals. Dan Burn led the Seagulls' best chance over the crossbar from point blank range.

Leandro Trossard, Neal Maupay and Neal Maupay also committed the crime of not hitting the target from promising places, while Shane Duffy was against the side-netting in Pascal Gross's corner.

Potter said that they tried everything. "I think the fans were very happy and proud of their team, because it was amazing," Potter said to Sky Sports.

"Especially in the first half, we were really, really strong and played with great courage, intensity, and quality - especially when you look at the opponent's quality."

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the Gunners' best chance in the first half. He nodded against the post after Bukayo Saka’s looping cross.

In a rare attack in the second half, Emile Smith Rowe shot directly at Robert Sanchez, Brighton's goalkeeper. However, an Arsenal win would have been too harsh for the hosts.

Brighton is now in fifth place with 14 points, equal to Everton and Manchester United, as well as Liverpool, who are currently level with Liverpool on 14.

Potter stated, "It's an foundation." "Fourteen points in seven games is good, but we must keep moving."

"This performance gives us hope and belief for the future."

Missed opportunities in Albion

Brighton was brave - Potter

Arsenal came into this match feeling good after their win over Tottenham last weekend. However, they were not able to hold the lead for long periods of time as Brighton won the game.

Although the Seagulls attempted 21 times to score Aaron Ramsdale's goal, only two of them were successful enough to force the goalkeeper at 23 years old.

Burn will regret not having broken the deadlock, after connecting well to Lewis Dunk's ball from deep within the penalty area.

Trossard missed a chance to get a shot in from the corner of his box, but Maupay, who had won the Gunners' match against him in two previous starts, blazed over from close range.

Jakub Moder fired twice wide from the area's edge as Brighton started the second period with a lively start. However, Potter's side couldn’t get through.

The Albion boss had some positives, however. Marc Cucurella, a former Barcelona wingback, caused Arsenal a lot of problems in the first period. Adam Lallana and Gross were good partners in midfield.

Martin Odegaard, however - one Arsenal's most outstanding performers in recent victories over Spurs and Burnley - was mostly anonymous.

Both teams were denied penalty appeals in the final stages. Smith Rowe was found to have fallen under Duffy's challenge. Gabriel, however, was not punished for his tug-back against the Albion defender.

Only Chelsea and Manchester City have more clean sheets than Brighton, with eight each in Premier League home matches.

Arsenal have scored five goals in seven of their first league games. This is their lowest total at this stage since 1986-87.
