Green Bay Packers add pocket to Aaron Jones' jersey so he can play with dad's ashes

GREEN BAY (Wis.) -- The Green Bay Packers' staff of equipment has found a way for running back Aaron Jones to keep his father's ashes near him during games.
Jones was unable to find the Alvin Jones Sr. medallion after he lost it during Week 2. Bryan Engel, the Packers' athletic trainer, found it in the Lambeau Field grass. Jones then had it with him for Sunday's victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

Jones stated that Gordon "Red" Batty, Jones' longtime equipment manager, has sewn a pocket into Jones' No. 33 jersey. 33 jersey.

Jones pointed just above his heart and said, "He put a pouch right on the left side." So I can drop it in there without worrying about it falling out. It's easy to play with."

He hasn't had his father's ashes since the break of the chain, and that's because he played against the 49ers.

Jones stated, "I believe it's something that I'll continue doing, just keep my father with me wherever I go." It is a constant piece of clothing that I wear almost every day. It's been a while since I wore it, so I had to get a new one. But I love it and will continue to wear it.

Alvin Jones Sr., age 56, died from COVID-19 complications.
