Sturridge played 26 times for England, scoring eight goals

Daniel Sturridge, a former striker for England and Liverpool, has signed for Perth Glory in the 2021-22 season.

Since March 2020, when he left Turkish club Trabzonspor, the 32-year old had not been able to join a club.

Sturridge said, "It's an amazing opportunity to try out a new challenge."

Tony Sage, Glory owner, said that Daniel was undoubtedly one the most significant signings in Glory's and the A-League's history.

Sturridge was at Liverpool for six and a quarter seasons, scoring 67 goals in 160 matches before being loaned to West Brom for half of the 2017-18 season.

As a free agent, he moved to Turkey in summer 2019.

The three-year contract he had with Trabzonspor was ended in March. He was also banned from all sports for four months due to his violation of betting rules.

Sturridge stated, "When the opportunity presented itself, it felt like a right thing to do. To take my talent somewhere that I can enjoy my soccer in a competitive league, and try to help the team succeed as much as possible."

"I will put my best foot forward, work tirelessly and try to help the team win every game. Then we'll see what happens when the season ends."
