Police confirmed that a 26-year-old Knoxville woman, who had been missing for three month, was found dead on Thursday.
Desheena Kyle's grandmother reported Desheena missing on June 28. Kyle was last seen at her Knoxville apartment on Wilson Road on June 18, according police.
Officers discovered a body at a Sam Tillery Road home Tuesday. It was identified as Kyle by police and the death was ruled to be a homicide.
Police had previously identified Kyle's boyfriend John Bassett as a person of concern in her disappearance. Although no charges have been filed against Bassett, a spokesperson from Knoxville Police Department said that Bassett was also an individual of interest in Kyle’s death.
Bassett was taken into custody in July for a probation-violation warrant.
Kyle's family told WVLT previously that they were frustrated with local police officers over what they perceived as a lackluster effort in investigating the disappearance of their daughter. Police did not consider it a possible murder until August.
Kyle's family, along with others from the Knoxville community, had been searching for Kyle for several weeks in wooded areas and the city.
"If it wasn't for Knoxville helping to search for her and keep her names alive, as well the news coverage, then we might still be waiting for some answers," Kyle’s aunt Rita Turner said to Knox News. "We couldn't have done it alone, but now we can see how important it makes a big difference."
