Bets are bets, and Kelsey Plum believes that bets are always right.
Plum, who was recently named the WNBA's 2021 Sixth Women of the Year, lost a January bet to A'ja Wilson, a Las Vegas Aces teammate, and knew that she would have to pay the consequences.
After months of waiting, Plum uploaded an Instagram photo on Wednesday showing Plum dressed in South Carolina Gamecocks gear.
"Yes, A'ja lost a bet, and she chose Tuesday to allow me to wear it to pregame. Plum stated Thursday that she is a woman of her word, so the scarlet red was the only thing she could wear. ET, ESPN2/ESPN App
Plum attended the University of Washington between 2013-17. There, she was the NCAA Women's Basketball All-Time Leading Scorer.
In 2017, Mike Neighbors, her college's head coach, became the University of Arkansas' head coach. Plum took her chance when the Razorbacks faced Wilson's alma mater, the University of South Carolina. The No. 6 Gamecocks defeated the No. 15 Razorbacks defeated the No.
Plum stated, "It was close, we didn’t get through, and for this, I had to take the price."
A statue of Wilson was also unveiled in the vicinity of Colonial Life Arena, where they play. Wilson was a South Carolina player from 2015-18, and was instrumental in leading the team to their first NCAA championship in 2017.
Wilson commented on Plum’s post, "Aye! See what happens when you wear garnet & black!" -- a tribute to Plum's 25 point performance in Game 1 against the Phoenix Mercury.
Wilson and the Aces hope that Plum can replicate the performance in Game 2 Thursday night, regardless of whether it was Plum's pregame gear or Plum’s skillset. This will give them a 2-0 series lead.
