Catalans Dragons made Super League history when they beat Hull KR to make their first Grand Final appearance.

They took a lead in the first half through Ben Garcia's and Josh Drinkwater's tries. Shaun Kenny–Dowall scored a Rovers goal just before the end of the game.

After the break, Catalans retreated from the Robins with Arthur Mourgue and Fouad Yaha. Joe Chan tried.

Ryan Hall's last effort was only consolation for the spirited guests.

Catalans will face the winner of Friday's semi-final between St Helens Rhinos and Leeds Rhinos at Old Trafford on Saturday, September 9.

Perpignan was buzzing about the prospect of a Grand Final for either one of the teams, and the city rallied behind it with a noisy, colourful crowd.

The play-offs were a lively affair that was unmatched by the Hull KR fan travelling to their corner of Stade Gilbert Bruteus.

Steve McNamara's hosts displayed precision, patience, and power. They built pressure through their forward pack, and earned the rewards through the Drinkwater and James Maloney kicking games.

Even without Sam Tomkins injured, they still looked dangerous - Drinkwater in particular followed up his intercept try by making perfect kicks to score Garcia and Chan points, while Mourgue scored from Maloney’s bomb.

Tony Smith's team showed that they are still one of the most entertaining sides in the division, despite the defeat. Even though the club was at the bottom of the table last year, it was impressive to reach the fourth round.

Catalans were often frustrated by their free-spirited attacks. It took a lot of discipline and defensive scramble to stop them.

Both Kenny Dowall's and Hall's attempts were based on well-planned moves to the left that involved Kane Linnett's muscular presence.

The hosts didn't get drawn into the off-the cuff tussle and kept their cool to defeat Hull KR for the fourth time this season.

Tony Smith, Hull KR boss, spoke to BBC Radio Humberside

"I felt we did one of our less-than-stellar performances in the 40th, but we were skilled and competent with the ball.

"It was a well-deserved effort by Catalans. They got into their flow during the second half, which they weren't in the first.

"We were still in it at half-time, but they had a lot of kick plays that really hurt us. They took advantage of that.

"People were trying their best to do the right things for one another, but we had one day where the passes went behind and even though we had kicks that terrorised full-back, they bounced because they had more urgency.

"One of our challenges next year is to back up every week. That's where it's at but we're making good progress."
