Star Wars fans were quick to speculate about who would replace Gina Carano, the Mandalordians actress, after she posted anti-Semitic memes and ridiculed the use of pronouns.

Although Disney has not yet indicated what Cara Dune's future holds, the name Lucy Lawless has been mentioned in more fan forums for reasons that should be obvious. Lawless's role as the star in Xena: Warrior Princess is a big part of the character of Cara Dune. Lawless lending her talents for Star Wars makes perfect sense on paper. The word that Lawless was interested in joining Star Wars made it to Lawless herself. She recently spoke out to Metro.co.uk to reveal that she had been in talks to sign on to a Star Wars project (but not Mandalorian) before Carano's mess.

Lawless did not share the details of the other project, but she explained that the drama with The Mandalorian as well as people fan-casting her to replace Carano were factors in why they didn't go ahead at the time. Lawless might have felt hurt by being cast in Star Wars following Caranos exit.

Star Wars galaxy is large enough to allow for more than one woman fighting the evil forces. However, Lawless's point about the potential hiring of Lawless is important. People would have assumed that Disney was trying to hide its past ties with Carano by naming Lawless to join a Star Wars movie or show about a character called Caren Spice. Instead, they were simply replacing her with an actress who plays similar characters. The fact that Cara Dune, a beloved character of fans, seemed to be poised for a bigger role in The Mandalorian or beyond is a complicating factor. Although Caranos' statements do not have anything to do with Lawless this kind of situation is probably why the studio parted ways with the actress. Star Wars will be able to recover from the Carano-focused backlash, but it is doing so by trying not to bring the matter back up. Lawless does not hold grudges over the fact that she was inadvertently made a political statement by another actor. She also understands that the desire to see Lawless in more roles is part of the reason that the public wants to see her in more.

She said that the world is as it is, and she understood their love for me. It hasn't caused me any pain but I remember thinking at that time that it made me look like an actress and not a politician.
