DYERSVILLE (Iowa) -- Frank Thomas has discovered his Field of Dreams.
This Hall of Famer was the founder of a venture to buy controlling interests in Go the Distance Baseball's All-Star Ballpark Heaven stake and the Field of Dreams Movie Site.
The company announced Thursday that This is Heaven LLC (a company owned by Thomas, 53, and Rick Heidner of Chicago, was acquiring the Go the Distance Baseball interests held by the Denise M. Stillman trust.
Thomas will serve as CEO. Dan Evans, former general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will be chief operating officers.
Stillman was the leader of a group that purchased the field in 2011, the site of "Field of Dreams" and the adjoining Lansing family farm. A cornfield is still in operation on the site, which covers approximately 190 acres. Stillman died in 2018.
Major League Baseball constructed a ballpark near the movie site. The New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs played their first major league game there on Aug. 12. There are two scheduled games next season: the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds.
Thomas, nicknamed the Big Hurt and a five-time All-Star, was inducted into The Hall of Fame in 2014.
