Humans Could Definitely Live to 130, Scientists Say

A new study in the Royal Society Open Science journal has shown that humans can technically live to 130.

Researchers also discovered that the risk of dying as supercentenarians increases beyond a certain point and stays constant at 50/50 chances of dying in a given year. This suggests that advanced medicine could allow many people to live Methuselah-like lives.

Anthony Davison, lead researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), said that beyond age 110, one could think of living another day as almost like flipping a coin.

He said that if it comes to heads, you'll live until your next birthday. If not, you'll die within the next year.

Davison stated that while the researchers had to extrapolate existing analyses in order to arrive at their conclusions, they were pretty sure that humans will be able make it to 130.

Davison explained to AFP that if a limit is below 130 years, then we should be able detect it using the data currently available. He also said that if you are already 110, your chances of living to 130 are approximately one in a million.

Davison believes that the first person to reach 130 could do so within the next century.

He said that he believes it is highly unlikely that ages significantly higher than this will ever be observed due to the lack of significant medical and social advancements.
