iOS 15 Adoption Estimated at Nearly 20% as Users Encounter Several Early Bugs

Mixpanel, a mobile analytics company, estimates that iOS 15 adoption has reached 19.3% since September 20th.

Mixpanel measures iOS adoption by measuring visits to apps and websites that use its mobile analytics SDKs. This data is not officially recognized. Apple has not yet shared iOS 15 adoption statistics, having reported an iOS 14 adoption rate of 85% in June.

iOS 15 adoption seems to be slower than iOS 14 adoption. There are likely many reasons, including Apple giving iOS 14 users the option to keep receiving security updates, some iOS 15 features being delayed and iOS 15 still having a few bugs.

Apple stated that an issue that prevented some iPhone 13 users using the Unlock With Apple Watch feature was being fixed in a forthcoming software update. Although the feature allows you to unlock your iPhone with a mask on, some users have received an "Unable To Communicate With Apple Watch" error message.

Another iOS 15 bug can cause photos from an iMessage conversation to be saved and then deleted. This could lead to intermittent touchscreen problems on iPhone 13 models, as well as other issues.

Apple is currently beta-testing iOS 15.1, which contains a fix for Unlock with Apple Watch bug at minimum. However, there is no timeline for the software update's publication. Apple may release an iOS 15.0.1 update to address security issues and bugs faster.
