Premier League: Restrictions could be curbed for clubs with high vaccination rates

Karl Darlow urged footballers not to get vaccinated

The Premier League is evaluating whether it should "reward" high-coronavirus vaccination rates.

Concerns have been raised about the vaccination rate, with less than half of the players being vaccinated at most clubs.

According to the Premier League, "We are evaluating if and how best can we'reward" those players/squads that are most Covid-compliant."

Karl Darlow, Newcastle's goalkeeper, was admitted to hospital in July. N'Golo Kaante from Chelsea was also tested positive for HIV this week.

In an email to top flight clubs last week, the Premier League stated that only seven clubs have more than half of their squads fully vaccinated.

"It is becoming increasingly obvious that full vaccination will become the key criteria for government officials and health authorities in international travel and possible Covid certification at large scale events."

The coronavirus protocols at training grounds and stadiums will be in effect until the end. However, it is possible to relax them if players become more vaccinated.
