Leigh Griffiths was Dundee's starter in the Rangers weekend loss, but was later diagnosed with a calf injury.

After apparently throwing a flare into the stands of supporters, Leigh Griffiths, a Dundee striker, was charged by the Scottish FA with excessive misconduct.

After the League Cup quarterfinal loss to St Johnstone, Griffiths apologized and was later charged by Police Scotland with "culpable" and "reckless" conduct.

On-loan Celtic striker was also charged with bringing disrepute to the game and not acting in best interests of the game.

A hearing will take place on Thursday 14 October to hear the case.

Griffiths was arrested on Friday, after he arrived at training. Police Scotland stated that Griffiths had been charged with reckless and culpable conduct. The Procurator Fiscal will receive a report.

However, no other arrests were made. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Griffiths described the incident as "regrettable" and stated that he intended to remove the pitch from it. I am sorry for the distress caused by this act.

The former forward for Scotland returned to Dundee late last month on loan from Celtic, after originally playing for the Tayside club in 2009 and 2011.
