This product is relatively new and claims to help with everything, from anxiety and autism to ADHD and depression. These blankets have not been peer-reviewed or published in scientific journals. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that weighted blankets aren't possible. These blankets require more research.

I recently tried Quility's Premium-Weighted Blanket. Here are my thoughts and experiences with the blanket, as well as a description of how it helped my spouse with her anxiety disorder.

Premium Weighted Blankets come with a 100% Polyester minky cover that can be removed. The blanket features a gray cotton outer and layers of polyester padding. To prevent leakage, the blanket is made up of millions of tiny, lead free glass beads.

You can choose from five sizes and six different cover colors. There are seven weights available to fit both children and adults. Quility has a helpful infographic that will help you decide the right size and weight for you. As a general rule, a blanket should be 10 to 12% larger than your body weight. If you are 180 pounds, the ideal blanket weight would be around 20 pounds.

For toddlers, the blanket sizes are 36 by 48 inches and 86 by 92 inches respectively. The blankets weigh between 5 and 25 pounds. There are six options for minky covers: navy blue, gray and other patterns.

My weight is 240 pounds and that of my wife is significantly lower. We decided to share the difference and get a 20-pound blanket measuring 60 by 80 inches. Since it is the most popular, we chose the navy blue minky blanket.

The blanket comes in a large zip-up plastic bag that is commonly used to carry comforters. You will need to attach the duvet yourself if it isn't already attached. It took me five minutes to tie it in. To verify that it was 20 pounds, I weighed it with the cover on. It turned out to be 22.8 lbs.

What makes the blanket stand apart?

The blanket's weight is evenly distributed. It's not heavier in certain pockets than it is elsewhere. It's still breathable and provides warmth without being too hot. This was an important bonus for me as I like to sleep hot. It reminds me of the lead vest you wear at the dentist when you have your teeth X-rayed.

After I put my blanket down, I fell asleep in a matter of minutes. This was even after a spontaneous nap. The Quility blanket never made it difficult for me to fall asleep. It's the combination of the blanket's weight and the luxurious, lightweight minky cover that makes it so comfortable, I can't wait to get back into bed.

The zipper's pull tab is a small, discreet one that I have never felt poke at. The blanket's perimeter is held in place by string ties. Although it was a pain to remove the blanket and place it on, it was much easier than washing the entire thing.

The duvet can be washed in the washer and dried in the dryer. Quility does not recommend that you put the blanket inside. It is better to hand wash the blanket with mild detergent and dry it flat. It hasn't shown any wear after four months of regular use.

My wife was adamant that the blanket was her best friend in coping with anxiety. It allows her to sleep easily and stops her fidgeting at nights. Although she still experiences sleep problems at night, they are much less common and more prominent when she uses the blanket.

Consider the cons

You can cause blanket to bunch up if you don't tie the ties properly. It's still better than not having any ties.

This blanket measures 60 by 80 inches and should cover my 6-foot frame. However, it is too long to cover my entire body. I sleep on the diagonal so I get the coverage I need. This was not logical so I got a tape measure.

The blanket was 6 inches shorter than I measured it at first. The blanket measured 60 by 80 inches when I stretched it out. Problem is, you can't lay the blanket flat on your back. It adjusts to your body. It didn't cover my entire frame. Even my wife, who is 5 feet 9 inches tall, noticed that she had to adjust her blanket. Quility should make a longer blanket.

Finally, the blanket can get in the way intimacy. It isn't the best blanket for two people so either my wife or I use it. We must "tunnel," or hold hands while we sleep. This is not an easy task. It is difficult to move from one side of the bed to another during the night. My wife and I have gotten to cuddle less since we started using this blanket.

The bottom line

Overall, the Quility Premium Weighted blanket is a great choice for lounging. It's especially good when I'm reading a book. It makes me feel like I'm back at home in my womb. This blanket is not recommended for sleeping. But, I don’t have anxiety. It has been a great help to my wife. I strongly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an additional tool to aid their mental health.

Pros: Calms anxiety and allows you to get a restful night's sleep.

Cons: Can be too small or too tall for taller individuals, and can hinder intimacy
