EL SEGUNDO (Calif.) -- LeBron James stated that he was initially skeptical about the COVID-19 vaccination, but ultimately decided to have it because it would benefit his family, his friends, and his team.

James stated Tuesday that James was always looking for ways to be there and protect each other, and to give yourself the best chance of being available to your teammates and available to do what is necessary on the court.

"Obviously, winning a championship is the ultimate goal. It all starts with health being the No. It is the number one thing. We are excited to have another chance to make ourselves available to one another, and that's exactly what it came down.

Rob Pelinka, Lakers president of basketball operations, and general manager, stated last week that he expects his entire roster to have been fully vaccinated by the start of the regular season in October.

Frank Vogel, Coach, stated that players making a collective decision to get vaccinated could be a competitive advantage. Some teams in the league, including the Brooklyn Nets, still have unvaccinated players.

Vogel stated that "it's huge" as Vogel welcomed reporters to their building for the first-time in almost 18 months due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Obviously, you want to be in a position to prevent any compromises from an extended absence or exposure to quarantines. Our group found them to be very costly. We have that luxury.

"We felt like there were many conversations and education to get this done and I'm super proud for our guys for making that promise and hopefully we don’t have any disruptions like last year."
