Detroit Lions release veteran LB Jamie Collins after exploring trade

DETROIT (Mich.) -- The Detroit Lions have announced Tuesday that Jamie Collins has been released after trying to trade him as a linebacker.
Collins, a nine year veteran, did not report to practice before Week 3, as the Lions looked into his future. The Lions coach Dan Campbell stated last week that Collins was present at a meeting to discuss the team's plans for a trade. However, the Lions couldn't agree to a deal.

Collins can immediately sign with another team. This year, he is guaranteed an $8.8million salary from Detroit ($5 million bonus, $3.8million salary).

Collins, a former Pro Bowler, racked up 10 total tackles and a tackle to lose and a fumble recovery during back-to-back defeats to San Francisco (and Green Bay) this season.

Campbell stated last week that Collins was in a diminished role and decided to take on the younger players.

Campbell spoke out about Collins last Thursday, saying that he believes they've played two games. "We felt it was again. If you want to grow as a person, as a team and as a whole, then you need to do it now.

Jamie will also benefit from this. He has the opportunity to travel and do what he likes, and we are just in a completely different place.
