This is scary.
The Whole of You
After the region had been without rain for 100 days, a huge dust storm enveloped several Brazilian cities Sunday.
Reddit shared footage of an apocalyptic dust storm that towered over So Paolo. It seemed to reach heights several times greater than the highest buildings. This massive dust storm is a result of severe drought and is a worrying sign for the area's ecological health, particularly considering the ongoing destruction of the Amazon rainforest.
Additional footage shows the sky changing to a dark red, and people fleeing as the storm comes in and blankets the city.
Amazon Dust Bowl
The dust storm brought down strong winds and severe pain to the 12.3 million inhabitants of Paolos. Reddit's original post pointed out that this type of storm is not common in the region. This makes the storms' severity and size all the more alarming.

Ironically, the dust storm was partially quenched by a huge rainstorm that came in the second month, which caused widespread flooding, according to Gulf Today, a UAE-based news outlet.
Although it is not certain that the dust storm was caused directly by climate change, the dry conditions and prolonged droughts that allowed the storm to form are clearly linked to rising temperatures as well as ecological collapse. These storms will not be a common occurrence as the world confronts the challenges of climate change.
