After Monday's loss to Dallas Cowboys 41-21, Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, was held responsible.
He told reporters that he didn't do a great job leading. I didn't. "I didn't do a great job running the offense. This one is on me.
Hurts stated that he would move on from the loss and said the Eagles were going to "flush it and move forward".
Hurts' final numbers were both solid and misleading. Hurts finished with 25-of-39 passing, 326 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also ran for 35 yards on nine runs. The Cowboys had the game under control and made many critical errors. Much of the aerial production was still possible.
He was unable to establish rhythm after halftime, throwing an interception on Philadelphia's initial possession.
Fletcher Cox's defensive touchdown was the only point scored by the visitors before intermission. Even though they were within striking distance of Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and Ezekiel Elliott on the opposite side, that touchdown helped them stay in the game. However Hurts' pick six to Trevon Diggs on their first possession of the second period almost sealed the deal.
Hurts said that the play calling wasn’t the problem, but it would have been helpful if the Eagles tried to establish the run and relieve some of the pressure from his shoulders.
After a total of 28 carries the previous two weeks, Miles Sanders only had two carries for the game. After the Eagles lost by 20 points, Hurts looked more comfortable in no-huddle runs. He also found Zach Ertz for touchdown. The Dallas defense was confused and failed to set up prior to the snap.
Philadelphia may find this a positive sign as it prepares to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4.
To keep up with Patrick Mahomes, Hurts will need to be better as well as the offense.
