Tottenham: Nuno Espirito Santo appointment 'turning into a nightmare'

Tottenham are the only Premier League team to have won their first three matches and lost the rest.

Chris Sutton, a former Premier League striker, said that Nuno Espirito Sante has been appointed Tottenham manager.

After three games, Spurs were at the top of the league with a trio of wins of 1-0. However, Sunday's 3-1 defeat to Arsenal was their third consecutive loss.

This result came after 3-0 defeats against Crystal Palace, Chelsea.

Sutton stated, "It doesn’t feel like the right match - he’s got to win over Spurs fans and that I don’t think he can,"

"He was not the first or second choice. His Wolves team was in decline last season and Spurs fans weren't going to like his style of football.

After Jose Mourinho's sacking, Tottenham began a long search for a new manager.

Spurs reached out to Mauricio Pochettino, Paris St-Germain's boss, about the possibility that the Argentine could return to manage them. However, the French club refused to allow him to go.

Antonio Conte, former Chelsea boss, appeared to be interested in the job but talks between Spurs and Italy broke down.

Paulo Fonseca, an ex-Roma manager, thought he was going to take over. However, Gennaro Gattuso was quickly replaced by Gennaro Gattuso after fans were critical of the social media posts that raised questions about the Italian's commitment towards inclusion.

Nuno was appointed shortly after Harry Kane was questioned about his future. However, the England captain stayed on and a win over champions Manchester City appeared to have set the stage for a positive season.

Their recent results are matched by some shocking statistics: they rank 20th in the Premier League for shots, chances created this season, and have traveled less than any other team.

Sutton said, "He's been placed in an incredibly difficult position, there's not doubt about that," during a BBC Radio 5 Live Monday Night Club interview.

"But Nuno's comments about blaming him after the Arsenal match were worrying, as was blaming players.

"There weren't many players who ran back to their homes, or were unsure of the jobs they were being asked. They were a total and utter mess. Nuno is unlikely to give Spurs fans the football they desire. It's becoming a bit of nightmare if you add the Kane stuff.

"The appointment didn't work and that's on Daniel Levy.

Spurs were not good enough against Arsenal - Nuno

Micah Richards, a former Manchester City defender, said that Tottenham's problems must be addressed by the players.

Richards stated, "There is no unit, stability or organization - it's almost as if they're playing for their own purposes."

"You can't excuse a manager who comes in after being second choice. While there may be more famous managers, the players must respect Nuno's incredible work with Wolves. They were doing well.

"No matter who your manager is, you have to treat them with the same respect and fight for their good." You are being judged.
