According to TMZ, the famous actor will ride along Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin vehicle, The New Shepard capsule. It is scheduled for October and will take about 15 minutes. According to TMZ, it will even be filmed as a documentary.
He will not be the first civilian to go into space. SpaceX's Elon Musks launched four astronauts into orbit this month as part of a mission to raise funds for St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
Bezos' July Blue Origin flight set the record for oldest person to fly into orbit. This record will be broken again. The New Shepard, a combination space capsule/reusable rocket that the company plans to use for astronauts and civilian crew members in space, is what the company calls "The New Shepard".
Blue Origin will be able to live up to this goal thanks to Shatner, but it's unclear if Shatner will wear his Captain Kirk uniform.
