Sir Alex Ferguson hails Cristiano Ronaldo's 'fantastic' Man Utd return

Sir Alex Ferguson praised Cristiano Ronaldo for his immediate impact upon his return to Manchester United.
The legendary manager was present at Old Trafford when Ronaldo scored two against Newcastle in his second debut for club.

After scoring against Young Boys and West Ham, Ronaldo scored again. Ferguson signed Ronaldo in 2003 when he was 18.

Ferguson said that it was "fantastic" on the UTD Podcast. On Saturday, Ferguson said that it was similar to Caesar entering Rome after his victory. "I came, saw, and conquered." It was amazing.

"It's a great place to be a United fan. We could have a million people there. It's one thing. His learning process was quick when he was a child.

He was described as a diver by many people. After a spell, he began to attack defenders. All he needed to do was give them a push and he would walk right past them. He attacked with incredible speed. His increasing knowledge of the game is a sign that he was born with a desire to learn.

"He gave his life to make the best. It was raining at Carrington that Saturday when we were playing Arsenal. I told him that he would practice after training and he said, "In." It's too wet. We have a game tomorrow. The ground is too soft.

"So I went into the office and looked out of my window. And what did he do?" He started to play Astroturf. I had no argument! He didn't have anything to say. He beat me."

Ferguson stated that Ronaldo's dream to play for Real Madrid was his motivation. He didn't stop him from pursuing it when Real Madrid called in 2009.

He said, "I wasn't against that, six year was great for a Madeira boy, getting him here just before his 18th birthday."

"I believe we did well that way, and it gave us a chance for a replacement. We were extremely fortunate to have Antonio Valencia as our replacement.

"I knew [how great he would be]. Yes. That was something I knew. Real Madrid was the right place for him. Real is a club that has produced top-class players over years and has won the European cup 13 times. It is a place where great players would want to play.

Gary Neville, speaking on his podcast, said that Man Utd needs to learn how to play as a team in order to challenge for the title. They must also win a trophy within the next 18 months.

United fell to a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday, following their Carabao Cup third round loss by West Ham.

Neville said that there was pressure for the club to win a trophy this summer after signing Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, he believes that the club will finish the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer projects because sacking managers has never worked.

Neville also discusses Manchester City's win over Chelsea on Saturday as well as Arsenal’s super Sunday blitz against Tottenham.
