Update: Signal sent a tweet saying that the disruption was caused by a hosting problem.

Many users are experiencing signal problems right now. The status website states that the encrypted messaging app is having technical problems and many users are receiving the same message. Signal has been contacted by TechCrunch for comment.
Downdetector.com reports that users began reporting outages at 11:05 Eastern Standard Time, this evening. It appears to be affecting people all over the globe.

After WhatsApp's data-sharing policies were changed, Signal saw a spike in Signal downloads on Google Play and App Store in January.
Signal has been adding new features to its feature-set over the last few months. Signal now includes a default timer to automatically apply the settings to any new conversation.
