Apple will begin mass production of a new MacBook Air with a more powerful Apple silicon processor, Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, said today in a MacRumors research note.
Kuo previously stated that the new MacBook Air would feature a completely new design including a mini-LED screen and a faster Apple silicon processor. Kuo had previously indicated a launch in the middle of 2022. Now Kuo has provided a timeline for mass production starting in the second or third quarters of 2022.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the new MacBook Air would feature a thinner and lighter enclosure, two USB4 ports, and a MagSafe charging connection. Jon Prosser, an Apple leaker and YouTube personality, shared renders of the alleged upcoming MacBook Air earlier in the year. These renders show most notably that Apple intends to release the new laptop with a variety of colors, much like the 24-inch M1 iMac.
Apple's MacBook Air was last updated with the M1 chip in November 2013. It still retains the original MacBook Air design. The MacBook Air does not appear to be among the many Macs that Apple will update with Apple silicon, despite the expectation that it would.
