Apple stated in a support note on Sunday that the handy Unlock feature with Apple Watch, which allows users to unlock their phone without using Face ID or passcode, may not work on certain iPhone 13s. Users who attempt to unblock their iPhone might get a message saying Unable to Communicate With Apple Watch, or not being able to set it up at all.

In recent days, users of iPhone 13s reported that the bug appeared to only affect Apple's latest line of phones. Some users claimed that the feature was compatible with older models such as the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Plus, iPhone XR and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The feature is only available on the iPhone X or later versions.

Apple doesn't offer a quick fix for iPhone 13 users who love this feature. However, the note Apple posted on Sunday suggests that you can put aside trying to fix it. Several users tried unsuccessfully for hours to reset, unpair and repair the problem. Some users reported that the problem was fixed by a complete reset of both devices. However, that seems like a lot to do to unlock your phone with your watch when you have other options.

Apple promised that the glitch would be fixed in a future update to its software, but it did not specify what the problem was nor when the update would be available. iPhone 13 users will be out of luck until then.

You can disable Unlock with Apple Watch until the update is available and then use your passcode for unlocking your iPhone 13, Apple stated.

Go to Settings > Face ID and Passcode to disable the Unlock feature on Apple Watch.
