Garth Crooks' team of the week: Dias, Saka, Smith Rowe, Salah

Tottenham was defeated 3-1 by Arsenal in the north London derby. Manchester City won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge to end Chelsea's unbeaten start to the Premier League.
Leaders Liverpool were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brentford, while Manchester United lost 1-0 at home to Aston Villa.

Despite winning six matches, Burnley and Newcastle, Leeds, Norwich, Southampton, and Leeds remain winless.

Burnley was denied by Leicester with a late equalizer in a draw of 2-2. Newcastle was drawn 1-1 with Watford.

Everton defeated Norwich 2-0, Leeds lost at home 2-1 to West Ham, and Southampton lost to Wolves 1-0.

You can check out my team of week, and make your own selections at the end of the article.

Goalkeeper: Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)

Arsenal allowed this goalkeeper to slip through their fingers, and they went to Aston Villa. I thought it was a terrible mistake. It was something I believed then, and it is still something I believe today.

Villa, on the other side, have greatly benefited from his exceptional performances. The Argentine performed at his best against Manchester United.

When United won a penalty, I was stunned. Martinez challenged Cristiano Ronaldo in a duel. He almost taunted me, almost challenging him to accept the penalty. Fernandes, United's official penalty-taker, missed the spot-kick, but I was blown away by the sheer courage and confidence of Martinez.

Did you know? Manchester United tried 28 shots on Martinez's goal, but failed to score. This is the most shots they've attempted at Martinez's goal in a Premier League home game since October 2016.

Defenders: Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City), Kortney Hause (Aston Villa), Ruben Dias (Manchester City)

Laporte: Manchester City displayed a tremendous defensive display. Although I have often believed that you can cause City problems, particularly on counter-attacks, the combination of Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte was quite invincible against Chelsea.

While I am sure both players feel comfortable with the ball, I'm not convinced that either player can handle the physical aspects of the Premier League.

Romelu Lukaku is the man who will test your dedication to a football match. They were both put to the test by Chelsea's striker, and neither got much out of them.

Did you know? Manchester City conceded only one goal in six league games this season, the lowest number in their history.

Hause: That was a great header. It was a great ball, but the player's movement was amazing, and the end result was spectacular. You must insist that you do not place a player on the near side when you defend corners in modern games.

Manchester United was not against Aston Villa, who seem to be coming to terms with Jack Grealish's departure.

Although I felt the handball penalty against Hause was too harsh, that was Mike Dean's opinion. Although he is not my favorite referee, it was at most his decision and not the VAR's. Solskjaer complaining about Ollie Watkins' infraction on David de Gea's goal is something I have never heard.

Did you know? Kortney Haus's goal for Aston Villa was his first goal after scoring against Nottingham Forest in March 2019.

Dias: Mateo Kovacic's block was the best. It was amazing to see how Dias crossed the penalty area at crucial points in the game to stop what appeared like a certain goal.

The Portugal defender was outstanding and looked back to his best against Chelsea. However, the Blues may have made a serious mistake in selling Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner to Roma.

In the past, I believed Werner would be the better choice given Thomas Tuchel's preference for teams to play. However, it seems that Werner suffers from stage fright. I don’t believe anyone can help him.

Did you know? Manchester City has conceded 22 goals in 38 Premier League games RubenDias has played in. They had conceded 39 goals in 38 matches prior to his arrival.

Midfielders: Bukayo Sa (Arsenal), Jordan Henderson, Liverpool), Abdoulaye Doucoure(Everton), Emile Rowe (Arsenal).

Saka: Saka received a standing ovation after he had performed in the north London derby for 87 minutes. This was all you need to know about Saka's performance.

After his penalty miss in final of European Championships, I stated that it would be the making him. I have not seen anything this season to change that opinion.

It is hard to overstate how important this win was for Mikel Arteta. It is impossible to imagine what would have happened if he had lost this game. Nuno Espirito Sante is now ready to feel the heat.

Did you know? Bukayo Saka, Arsenal's 20-year-old and 21-day old player, is the youngest Premier League player to score and assist in a north London derby. This record was previously held by Cesc Fabregas.

Henderson: The draw between Liverpool and Brentford was a remarkable game. Yet, I struggled to choose a player for my team. There were moments of brilliance and mistakes in the match.

I won't choose defenders who concede three goals away or at home, nor strikers who score more than once. However, I will make an exception for Salah so I will stick with Jordan Henderson.

Liverpool keeps trying to write off this lad but Henderson is the player they can rely on to get them through the crisis. A remarkable professional.

Did you know? Jordan Henderson was the only player to make three crucial passes against Brentford.

Doucoure: He was a great player for Watford, so I wasn’t surprised that he showed up at Goodison Park.

Doucoure is a good runner and can score the occasional goal. They are often a surprise when he does. He was outstanding against a Norwich team that I have repeatedly said is doomed but did manage to get a game at Everton.

The Toffees' performance was remarkable because, despite the fact that many big names were injured, they still put on a great show.

Did you know? Abdoulaye Doucoure scored in six Premier League games this season. He also scored in 29 games for the Toffees in 2020-21.

Smith Rowe: When I saw Harry Kane outjump Ben White for a 50/50 header in the early exchanges, it was clear that the writing was on the Wall at Emirates Stadium. While anyone can lose a header, Kane's body language is what worries me.

Last week, I stated that he seemed like he didn’t like it. However, against Arsenal, he seemed like he was just going through the motions. I expect England's captain to be tougher than the captain of Tottenham Hotspur.

Smith Rowe, Arsenal's 21-year old player, was willing to walk across broken glass to win the derby. In his post-match interview, he said that it was the most memorable day of his entire life. This talented youngster deserves better days. But not at Tottenham's expense.

Did you know? Arsenal team-mates Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Bukayo Saka assisted each other five times in Premier League. Only Wayne Rooney (eight), and Cristiano Ronaldo (21 or younger) have more assisted each other than any duos.

Forwards: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Raul Jimenez (Wolves), Michail Antonio (West Ham)

Salah: My own choice is almost irritating. This was an inept performance by the Egyptian star, Salah.

He was probably the best chance of the match. It's hard to ignore a player who scored 100 Premier League goals in less time than any other Liverpool player. Even though his performance against Brentford was not the best, it's still a remarkable achievement.

Ten of the 11 Brentford players played in all games this season. This is why they will struggle to survive, though I believe they might just make it.

Did you know? Only Alan Shearer (124), Harry Kane (138) or Sergio Aguero (147) have achieved 100 Premier League goals for one club in fewer appearances that Mohamed Salah (151).

Jimenez: This goal was amazing. He won the challenge, defeated the oncoming defender and then collected himself to pass the ball past Southampton's goalkeeper.

Wolves have missed Raul Jimenez, boy! Last week, when they played Brentford, I thought the same thing. The Mexico international lost a chance with his skull and threw his headband off in anger. At that moment, I knew Jimenez was back mentally and physically.

Jimenez's head injury against Arsenal last season was devastating but Jimenez appears to be back to his best. The Wolves are desperate for him.

Did you know? Raul Jimenez scored the Premier League's first goal in 336 consecutive days after netting against Newcastle in Oct 2020.

Antonio: Antonio's ball for Pablo Fornals in West Ham's match against Leeds was brilliant, but his finishing was a sign of a striker at the top of his game.

Although he may have been the player of the month in August, he was definitely the man of the match against Leeds. Although he plays a physical game, the Jamaican international has a certain class in front of goal.

Antonio was a bull in china shop when I first saw him play. He now looks like a match-winner. That's what happens when we work hard at our game.

Did you know? Michail Antonio is the third Premier League player to score a winner in the 90th minute against Leeds at Elland Road. This is the first time since Scott Parker's victory for Charlton in December 2002.

The Crooks of the Matter

Arsene Inger is someone I admire greatly. Arsenal fans treated him horribly before his departure. I have even stated publicly that if Wenger had been the manager of Spurs, they would have made a statue of him.

But he has been a controversial figure in international media since his appointment as Fifa's global development head.

Former Arsenal manager insists that there is a desire among traditional football countries to host the World Cup every other year. Wenger doesn't want to promote the fact that most football fans across all age groups prefer to keep the status quo and have the tournament hosted every four years. This idea has been supported by the European League Forums and the World League Forums.

Wenger would be foolish to put his reputation at risk to support a proposal neither the clubs nor the fans want.

Fifa may be ready to expel the largest clubs around the world because they adopted a Super League that threatened Europe's domestic program. The next thing is that they might propose a World Cup every 2 years.

The same organization was also prepared to stop players refusing to travel to Covid-restricted regions to play for their national association's clubs from making their living and playing for them.

It is not about modernising the game or the safety of players. This is more about a sophisticated power grab to give Fifa greater control over the game’s income streams.
