Oman Air stated its intention to join the oneworld alliance, and said it was working with Qatar Airways (presumably as a sponsor) on its application.
In an emailed statement, the airline stated that airline alliances will be more important as the industry recovers after COVID. This will allow us to offer our guests more valuable loyalty offers, global connectivity and seamless travel.
Oman Air was established in 1993 with a Boeing 737 300 and crew from Ansett Australia. It flew from Muscat as its hub. As a regional airline, the airline was unsuccessful. In 2007, Oman Air received cash injections and increased its ownership stake from one-third to eighty percent. Oman, like Abu Dhabi's government, split from Gulf Air and launched its own services to Europe (London), and Southeast Asia (Bangkok). Over the next three decades, the government increased its stake to 99.8% in the airline.
Oman Air offers flights to destinations outside the Mideast, such as Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. There are also around 10 European destinations and 17 destinations in India Pakistan Nepal Bangladesh and Pakistan. Oman Air also offers flights to Northern Africa within the Gulf region as well as four Oman destinations.
The airline had planned to expand its fleet by adding 60 destinations and 70 aircraft before the pandemic. It plans to expand from 34 to 44 destinations next season.

Oman Air's frequent flyer program, the Sindbad Club, is called Oman Air. They have been known to status match. It would be too late to join the oneworld elite club. The process for approval normally takes around a year and half.
Oman Air is the airline I would use when I visited two Alila Hotels (Hyatt), Alila Jabal Akhdar, and Alila Hinu Bay.
