Bukayo Saka scored Arsenal's first Premier League goal since January
Arsenal's revival picked up speed as Tottenham's recent decline continued at Emirates Stadium in an entertaining north London derby.
After three games, the Gunners held onto the top spot while Spurs were at the top under Nuno Espirito Sante. How things have changed! A rampant Arsenal tore apart their rivals to pieces in a stunning first half.
The celebrations began for Arsenal fans when Emile Smith Rowe arrived unmarked to score Bukayo Saka's goal after 12 minutes. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the second half-time goal.
Spurs were staging a nightmare show, and Arsenal's 34-minute third goal was the best. Harry Kane was thrown over the ball by Spurs and Saka missed two tackles. Kane raced into his own penalty box to save the situation. Saka added to the pain with a calm final.
Spurs' performance after the break was better, Kane saving Aaron Ramsdale well and wasting an opportunity before Son Heungmin got one back.
Arsenal didn't have to worry late, as Ramsdale made another great stop by touching Lucas Moura’s shot onto the bar. Mikel Arteta's side won a well-deserved victory.
Arsenal's young guns are leading the charge
Arsenal 3-1: Arsenal is 'not far away' from perfect in the first-half, says Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager, has placed his Arsenal future on a long term plan. However, he admits that he won't get immediate results and has asked for patience.
Despite the three losses in the first league, there was still reason to be optimistic.
The Gunners' most recent win was based upon the brilliance of Saka Smith Rowe, Martin Odegaard and Smith Rowe, who were 20, 21 and 22, respectively.
All three of the talented players were involved in the goal that set the hosts on their path. Odegaard burst through Spurs' ineffective midfield, before feeding Saka, whose appealing cross was turned in Smith Rowe.
Saka received the third and Smith Rowe the second, respectively. This was a shameful effort by Spurs in an embarrassingly lopsided first 45 minutes.
Saka threw Sergio Reguilon to the right flank of Arsenal, Smith Rowe's rapier run and creativity left Spurs open and Odegaard made full use of the gaps in the visitors' midfield.
Aubameyang, whose form and dedication have been questioned while he struggles, set the tone for an explosive atmosphere in the Emirates by following Spurs' defenders in its opening moments.
It was the signal to start a spectacular first 45 minutes for Arsenal. They were completely unrecognizable from the timid, flimsy opening of the season.
Arteta will highlight the fact that Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes are now starting to form a defensive partnership. Ramsdale is present in goal and is undoubtedly Arsenal number one ahead Bernd Leno.
Spurs raised a gallop in half two. Ramsdale dived low and turned Kane's shot wide. Moura was unable to stop Ramsdale.
Arteta smiled as he received the cheers of Arsenal's delighted fans. Arteta's performance was as convincing as they have been for a long while under his leadership.
For Nuno and Spurs, problems are mounting
Spurs were not good enough against Arsenal - Nuno
Nuno, the Spurs manager, was a sombre figure in his technical area. He watched as Arsenal took his team to the cleaners in those first 45 minutes.
As they fell apart before half-time, the early promise of bringing Spurs to the top of the Premier League seemed far away.
It was the worst possible match, Spurs' body language indicating a lack in belief and no tactical plan. They were held on the ropes the whole half. Their cause was not helped by being second to almost every ball and losing possession on rare occasions.
Nuno's side has conceded three goals in three consecutive league games. This is a worrying sign from a manager who is known for his ability to create a strong defensive platform.
As the full extent of Spurs' capitulation unfolded before him, the manager looked like a battered man at times.
After the introduction of Oliver Skipp for Dele Alli, Japhet Tanganga and Emerson Royal in the second half - which was presumably a harsh word from Nuno as well as the fact that Spurs couldn't get worse - there was a noticeable improvement.
This performance was far too short and Spurs were not deserved. It was especially in the first-half an insult to their fans who gathered in one corner to watch the Arsenal match and were forced to endure the celebrations and taunts.
