Texas Governor. Greg Abbott defends the state's decision on President Donald Trump's behalf to audit 2020 presidential election results. This despite overwhelming evidence that he won the state.
Trump wrote to Abbott last week requesting an election audit. He claimed that "Texans know of voting fraud in some of their county." The Texas Secretary Of State replied by saying they would conduct a "comprehensiveforensic" audit of results from four of the state’s largest counties, Collin, Tarrant and Dallas. All but Collin County was won by President Joe Biden.
Fox News host Chris Wallace asked Abbott, a Republican, about the issue on Fox News Sunday. Wallace noted that Trump had won the state by hundreds and thousands of votes.
"Is it not a terrible waste taxpayer money to have an auditor in a state where everybody says everything went well and that Donald Trump won by 600,000. Are you not contributing to the undermining of confidence in our electoral process?" Wallace asked.
Abbott stated that there are audits of all aspects of government. "Why are we auditing everything in the world, but people raise their hand when we audit elections which is fundamental to democracy?"
Abbott continued to state that election audits were in progress. Wallace however noted that the audits in four new counties were launched "within hours of Trump's letter."

"We know that Donald Trump will win Texas regardless of what the audits reveal. Abbott stated that we have allegations of illegal voting every year, including the 2020 elections.
He said that the state had a "responsibility" to ensure integrity and confidence in elections. Critics of Abbott claim that he gave in to the pressures of the former president.
None of the many lawsuits Trump and his team filed to challenge the results of the 2020 elections have been successful. In December 2020, Attorney General William Barr stated that the FBI and the Department of Justice had not found any evidence of widespread election fraud.
