Pelosi says infrastructure bill will pass this week, but the vote may be delayed

Nancy Pelosi, the US House Speaker (D-CA), stands alongside Janet Yellen, Treasury Secretary, before Pelosi's weekly news conference at Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S.A, September 23, 2021.
U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated Sunday that she expects $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure legislation to pass this week. However, voting may be delayed from the original Monday deadline.

Pelosi stated on ABC's "This Week" that "Let's just say that we are going to pass this bill this week." "I will never bring a bill to Congress that does not have the votes. The date cannot be chosen. You must go when you have the votes within a reasonable time. We will."

Pelosi had previously promised that the infrastructure bill would be voted on by the Senate before September 27th. The measure has been passed by the Senate.

She added, "It might be tomorrow, if you have the votes."

She said that she is working to reach consensus on President Joe Biden’s reconciliation bill of $3.5 trillion.

Saturday's vote by the House Budget Committee to approve the bill and send it back to the House was unanimous. While moderate and progressive Democrats disagree over the scope and size of the package's contents, Pelosi stated Sunday that it was "simple to see" that the bill's cost will drop.

She said, "Everybody, overwhelming, and I believe even those who want to have a smaller number, supports the vision of President Obama."
