Bruno Fernandes has a success rate of 90.7% in club penalties

Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United's midfielder, says he will take up a penalty again "without fear nor dread" after he missed against Aston Villa.

Fernandes' kick was over the bar in the final minute of Saturday's 1-0 Premier League home loss.

He tweeted that he had "retaken the responsibility almost from [the day] I joined United" and that he would take it again, without fear or dread, whenever asked.

Fourth place: United lost to defeat

In the 88th minute, Villa had led at Old Trafford. However, Kortney Haus was able to score in his own area and referee Mike Dean gave United their first penalty of season.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated before the match, that his team weren't getting penalties when they should.

Fernandes said, "Thank you for your support after the last whistle!" It was very touching to hear you chant my name inside the stadium.

"I will be back stronger because these are the standards that I hold myself to."

After United signed Cristiano Ronaldo, there was much speculation about who would be United's penalty-taker.

Fernandes' club record for penalty records is better despite Saturday's miss. Fernandes has a 90.7% success ratio after converting 39 out of 43 club spot kicks. His Portugal teammate Ronaldo has an 85% rate after scoring 125 of 147 penalties.

United was defeated by West Ham three days earlier in the Carabao Cup.

After Chelsea's defeat to Liverpool and Chelsea's draw at Brentford, a victory over Villa would have pushed them to the top of the league table.
