According to The Detroit News, Sen. Lindsey Graham said Saturday night that he hoped former President Donald Trump will run again in 2024.
The Detroit News reported that Graham shared his hopes and fears for Trump's future political success on the second day at the Mackinac Republican Party Leadership Conference.
"I don’t believe Trump is listening." Graham said that he might be. "I hope President Trump will run again."
These comments were made three days after Graham was criticized by an ex-president and "on-and off ally" of his.
New claims were made earlier this week that Sen. Mike Lee and Graham had investigated Trump's claim that the 2020 election had been stolen. Graham believed the evidence provided by him was elementary and appropriate for "third grade," according to Robert Costa and Bob Woodward in their new book "Peril."
Trump responded to these claims by stating his Save America PAC Wednesday night, according to The Hill. He was also critical of the South Carolina lawmaker.
The statement stated that "I spent almost no time talking with Senators Mike Lee of Utah or Lindsey Graham of South Carolina about the 2020 Presidential Election Scam" or, as many view it, the "Crime of the Century." "Lindsey, Mike should be ashamed for not fighting the fight necessary to win."
Trump claimed that he had let the Democrats "get away with the biggest Election Hoax in History."
The Detroit News reported that Graham did not respond to Trump's comments on Saturday night. However, he said that Trump can be "a handful" but suggested that he "turn it down one notch."
He said that they had come to common ground in recent years. Graham joked that he has come to like Graham and that he loves him.
Graham was an early critic of Trump. He called him "a kook", a "race-baiting Bigot" and "the most flawed nominee of the Republican Party's history" during the 2016 election.
According to the New Yorker's report, they eventually mended their differences during a 2017 meeting and Graham became a reliable ally of the former president.
