Brentford was awarded a share of spoils when Yoane Wissa won late.
Yoane Wissa scored a late equaliser to help Brentford draw Liverpool in a thrilling encounter at Brentford Community Stadium.
Wissa's win over Alisson was a saving grace for the hosts. They matched Jurgen Klopp’s team for long periods and had enough chances to take all three points.
Thomas Frank's side had taken a well-deserved lead early on, thanks to Ethan Pinnock who scored from close range after Sergi Canos' low cross was misjudged by Ivan Toney.
Three minutes later, Diogo Jota had brought the visitors level. He rose unmarked to head Jordan Henderson’s looping cross into a corner from the edge six-yard box.
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah scored his 100th Premier League goal, putting them ahead for the first match. Vitaly Janelt then equalised after Pontus Jansson had tapped the crossbar.
Curtis Jones restored visitors' lead with a long range drive that took a wicked turn off Kristoffer Ajer while it was on its way in. But Brentford and Wissa had the final word.
The draw puts unbeaten Liverpool one point ahead at the top Premier League table, while the Bees climb to ninth.
Amazing Bees ruin Salah's century
Brentford has come a long distance since their last encounter with Liverpool, a 4-0 FA Cup quarterfinal defeat in 1988-89 season. They certainly gave the Reds a fight in a thrilling, breathless match that could have gone either direction.
Both teams tried to clear the line in a frenetic opening. Kristoffer Ajer denied Salah with a last-gasp move before Joel Matip cut Bryan Mbeumo out of harm's path at the other end.
Frank Onyeka and Toney also came close for the Bees. However, they eventually got a well-deserved lead from the unlikelyst of sources: Pinnock sliding home for his Premier League goal.
However, the hosts led for three minutes as Jota headed Henderson’s delivery past David Raya to score his third league goal.
After Jones' rebound shot that bounced off the post and into Raya's path, the visitors won the first half. Raya's goalkeeping was brilliant and denied Jota his second goal of the match.
Nine minutes into the second period, Salah's attempt was blocked by Brentford's goalkeeper. However, the goalkeeper was unable stop it from crossing the line for the Egyptian's 100th league goal.
Salah is the 13th player for the club to achieve a century of league goals. He also happens to be the fourth player to achieve this feat in the Premier League era, after Robbie Fowler and Steven Gerrard.
Frank's side continued to push forward, and Janelt equalised again. Jones was unable to reach the ball before it crossed over the line.
Liverpool was put back in control by Jones's thunderous drive. Salah could have provided a vital two-goal cushion for the Reds, but Jones' chipper effort saw him score the goal.
This missed opportunity proved costly. Wissa, who was only on the pitch for a few minutes after replacing Christian Norgaard, dished the ball over Alisson to complete scoring.
However, that was not the end.
Toney smashed the ball into the bottom corner of the goal with three minutes left to send home fans into raptures. However, the flag offside cut short their celebrations.
After claiming a hard-earned points, Frank and his players received a wonderful reception at the end of the whistle. This continues their amazing start in the top flight.
