The New York Times reported that a member of the far-right Proud Boys was texting his handler in response to the January 6th riot at US Capitol.
According to the report, the FBI was looking into at least two additional January 6 rioters who could have potential ties with the Proud Boys.
These records show that the FBI knew Proud Boys members were heading toward the Capitol.

One of the Proud Boys was an FBI informant who was present at the January 6th riot at US Capitol. He sent his FBI handler text messages with live updates, indicating that the FBI had immediate knowledge that a proTrump mob was heading toward the building.
According to The New York Times report, the informant was updating him handler when the pro-Trump mob marched towards the US Capitol 6. While lawmakers were inside discussing and certifying Joe Biden as the winner in 2020's presidential election,
According to the FBI, the informant was part of the Midwestern chapter. However, he claimed that Proud Boys members were following the mob, but denied that the group had plans to attack the US Capitol.
According to records, the Times shows that the informant claimed to have met up with other Proud Boys members at the Washington Monument in the morning of January 6, before moving to the Capitol. According to the informant, he described Trump supporters entering the building and barriers being knocked down.
According to records obtained by The Times, the handler did not seem to be able to comprehend that the Capitol had been compromised. According to the report, the records were given to the outlet because it wouldn't quote them directly.
According to records, the Times said that the informant started working with federal investigators around July 2020.
According to the report, the records don't indicate whether the informant could have intentionally misled federal investigators. Federal prosecutors face difficulties in proving that the informant's statements are false. They want to prove that the Proud Boys plotted to storm the Capitol building ahead of time.

The Times reported that 15 Proud Boys members have been charged with conspiring to commit crimes in connection with the January 6th riot. According to Insider, 654 people have been charged with participating in the January 6th riot.
