Jamie Vardy scored five goals in six Premier League matches this season
Jamie Vardy scored two goals, as well as an own goal, as Leicester City defeated Burnley to win the Premier League.
Vardy made a run for Nick Pope, Clarets goalkeeper, after substitute KelechiIheanacho's through-ball with five minutes left to complete an exciting afternoon for the Foxes striker.
Maxwel Cornet, Burnley's summer sign, scored a spectacular volley late in the first period for the visitors. This was his first league start since he joined for 12.85m in Lyon in August. He fired in from Matej Vydra’s cross.
Sean Dyche's side led early when Vardy accidentally beat Kasper Schmeichel by flicking a header at the near post from Ashley Westwood.
The Foxes striker, however, made amends for his mistake as he raced to Youri Tielemans’ pass and found the bottom corner before salvaging a late point with a calm finish.
Burnley boss Dyche thought his team had won a dramatic injury-time win, but Chris Wood's header was ruled out.
Vardy is the final judge as Burnley waits for their first win
Both Leicester's Vardy, and Burnley's cornet had a great opening 45 minutes. However, Vardy won the end of the match as it has been so often for the Foxes.
He missed an opportunity to score Leicester's first goal moments before his own. Tielemans' whip cross was just inches away when the 34-year old headed it over.
Matt Lowton's sliding challenge prevented Vardy from tapping in Ricardo Pereira’s ball across the six yard box. Burnley's defense initially held firm under pressure.
Tielemans performed admirably in Leicester's midfield, and it seemed likely that a way back into the match would be found through him. Five key passes were made by the Belgian, including one that set Vardy up for Leicester's first goal.
It appeared that Cornet's memorable Burnley goal would be the Clarets' sixth win.
Burnley signed the Ivory Coast international as the first foreign player for their first-team since Steven Defour in 2016. He complemented his hard work on the left with flair in third.
His day was cut short when he suffered a hamstring injury. While Dyche's team looked set to win an important opening victory, Vardy had other plans.
Pope was unable to score his fifth goal in six league matches this term. He ensured Leicester remained in the mid-table after a mixed start.
Burnley is now second bottom, having picked up two points out of a possible 18.
