Leeds United 1-2 West Ham United: Marcelo Bielsa's side continue winless run

Michail Antonio scored his first goal against Leeds with this win

Leeds was left searching for their first Premier League win as they lost to West Ham at Elland Road. Michail Antonio's 90-minute winner left them still looking for that.

Marcelo Bielsa's team had 35 chances to score, but Marcelo Bielsa's team had better chances in the second half. However, the visitors gained more control of the match as the excitement turned into nerves among home fans.

Raphinha opened the scoring for Leeds at 19 minutes, with a low finish from outside.

Eight minutes into the second period, West Ham thought they had equalised. However, referee Kevin Friend checked his pitchside monitor and spotted an Antonio foul against Illan Meslier.

Jarrod Bowen's shot inside the box was deflected by Junior Firpo, and the Hammers were able to score.

Leeds were caught on the counter-attack in the first minute injury time. Antonio smashed the ball past Jamie Shackleton, before sliding in the winner to propel the hosts into the third place.

Leeds is now the second team to fail to win six of their top-flight games. It happened last time in 1935-36.

Antonio is back with a bang

Antonio was given a one-match suspension after which he missed the defeat by Manchester United last weekend. He returned to West Ham to prove what had been lacking.

He had played nine games against Leeds before Saturday's game. He hadn't faced an opponent with more goals than him.

It looked like another frustrating day for the Hammers' Premier League top scorer, with just three shots on target. However, Leeds goalkeeper Meslier made a string of stops to deny him.

Anguish was compounded when Soucek's equalizer was ruled out. VAR revealed that Antonio had clattered Meslier with his arm during the build-up.

The Leeds keeper was treated and changed his shirt after a long stoppage. This seemed to have sparked a shift in momentum that saw the Hammers continue to dominate.

David Moyes' team had more traditional chances of scoring a second goal after they had some luck with their first goal. Bowen's shot was deflected off Liam Cooper's backside by Junior Firpo.

Aaron Cresswell, Said Benrahma and Antonio were close. However, Antonio won the race after some outstanding work by Declan Rice.

Antonio took the ball from the England international and threw it in his own half. Antonio then smashed it into the bottom corner, his fifth league goal.

Leeds drops to 18th place in the table after a defeat. They have only three points from six games so far and are one of five Premier League teams still looking for a win.
