Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City: Gabriel Jesus fires dominant visitors to victory

Last update on.From section Premier League
Man City took three points from Stamford Bridge after Gabriel Jesus scored his second Premier League goal.

Manchester City put on an impressive performance to end Chelsea's unbeaten start by the season. They won deservedly at Stamford Bridge.

The meeting was expected to be a battle for the Premier League title. However, the reigning champions prevailed against a passive and conservative Chelsea.

Gabriel Jesus ended a close affair when his 53rd minute effort beat Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy. However, few can question City's rightful win against the team that beat them last May in the Champions League final. The victory margin should have been much greater.

Thiago Silva almost gave Jesus a second goal, while Aymeric Leporte should have scored, but somehow missed the mark from the six-yard box.

Mendy also made two important saves against Jack Grealish.

This was the perfect way to start a critical week for City and Pep Guardiola, as they prepare to travel to Paris St-Germain in Champions League this week, then face Liverpool at Anfield next weekend.

Guardiola is now the City's most successful manager, with a record number of wins.

Man City makes a great statement

Although Manchester City has had a mixed start to the season, this was Manchester City at their best. They let one of their main title rivals understand that they won't be giving up their crown easily.

Guardiola's team were in front from the start, while Chelsea were reluctant to attack. Their only complaint was that they couldn't create clear opportunities despite having a lot of possession.

After the break, all that changed and Jesus was the decisive contributor as his shot from a packed penalty area took the crucial touch off Jorginho and left Mendy motionless.

It was a well-deserved reward for the Brazilian striker who received a lot of abuse from Chelsea's defense, especially Antonio Rudiger. But he took it all in stride and won the match.

Guardiola became more agitated as the time ticked down. This was likely because City had failed Chelsea despite being in control of all aspects. Although the chances were there, Mendy saved Chelsea, but it was all good for City.

The performance was flawless, except for the lack of ruthlessness. Ruben Dias and Laporte dominated the defence's heart, while Kevin de Bruyne added flair to midfield and Grealish prompting all throughout.

Grealish takes his 100m price tag with a pinch of salt, and plays with joy and a smile. He could have had more goals, and certainly should have one. Mendy saved his life and provided opportunities for others.

Guardiola was looking to win the match with Guardiola's substitution with just minutes remaining. He responded with a beaming smile to the jeers from Chelsea's fans.

Grealish and Manchester City did a great job.

Chelsea 0-1 Man City

Chelsea is beaten by Guardiola

Manchester City was in complete control and Chelsea's misery was reflected by the sad statistic that they didn't manage a single shot on goal. This is an accurate reflection of their performance.

Thomas Tuchel's team has been a force this season. They have won games even when they are not playing well, as against Aston Villa. And, they earned a point at Anfield despite only being down to 10 for 45 minutes.

The other was a terrible display that barely got out of first gear all the while rarely giving Ederson pause for concern.

Since his arrival at Chelsea in 2005, Tuchel has been rightly praised for his tactical skills, especially when he defeated the Manchester City team to win the Champions League in Porto.

However, Tuchel was furious and frustrated from the start of the match as Chelsea failed to put a glove on City. His three defensively-minded midfielders, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, and N'Golo Kante did not help.

Romelu Lukaku's Chelsea striker and Timo Werner's Chelsea striker were both cut short, but their performances and touch were disappointing on the few occasions when they were able get in the game.
