In the first 45 minutes of Old Trafford, there were 19 attempts.

Bruno Fernandes missed the 93rd minute penalty and Aston Villa won at Old Trafford in a thrilling match.

Two minutes before the end of normal, Villa had been ahead by Kortney Hause's powerful header. Manchester United was then presented with a crucial lifeline when the defender managed inside the box.

Fernandes, however, soared above the Stretford End to end United's unbeaten Premier League start.

United has lost both of their home games after West Ham took an early Carabao Cup defeat.

Villa missed two great chances before the dramatic finale.

After Matt Targett had moved within the six-yard zone, Ollie Watkins was unable to fire at David de Gea. The United goalkeeper Harry Maguire had backpassed and passed directly to Villa forward.

EzriKonsa won a thrilling match and beat Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Watkins was stopped by De Gea in the second half.

Emiliano Martinez saved Maguire's header, and Paul Pogba sighed wide when the France midfielder should be scoring.

Solskjaer: Penalty woe

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer frustrated by 'clear offside"

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addressed United's inability to provide penalties in recent weeks during his pre-match conference.

Red Devils boss said his team were denied two stonewall penalties in their 2-1 win over West Ham. He also felt that they should have been awarded a spot-kick in their cup loss to the Hammers.

Referee Mike Dean pointed out the spot immediately after substitute Edinson Cavi's header hit Hause's arm in stoppage time.

Fernandes however ballooned his attempt high above Martinez's crossbar, leaving Villa to celebrate a historic win.

It was the perfect ending to a bitterly disappointing day for United.

They attempted 28 shots, but failed to score. This was also the first time Cristiano Rondo had failed to score since his resigning.

Solskjaer and United suddenly find themselves under immense pressure prior to Villarreal's Champions League visit at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

After a long and costly summer on the transfer market, Solskjaer will be able to bring home trophies.

After losing to Young Boys in their first group match, one of the avenues has been closed in EFL Cup. They need to bounce back and defeat Villarreal.

Villa wins a memorable win

Dean Smith was pleased with his 'aggressive and 'brave display

Villa came to Old Trafford in search of a Premier League first point. After a remarkable performance, they left Old Trafford celebrating a memorable win.

Villa has not won at Old Trafford since 2009 when Gabriel Agbonlahor was the winner. Dean Smith's team, however, enjoyed their surroundings and seized on several opportunities.

Targett will be puzzled at how Targett missed the ball from close range after a beautiful move between John McGinn & Matty Cash.

Watkins will feel that he did not do enough after De Gea's mistake, Villa's number 11, was denied by Villa after half-time due to a diving stop. England boss Gareth Southgate is watching from the box.

Villa won nine away games to finish a respectable 11th season.

They are now up and running after back-to-back defeats at home. Hause made his first league start for the season, replacing Axel Tuanzebe who was not allowed to face his parent club.
