Hey Google, if Apple and Samsung can keep small phones alive, why can't you?

It's another busy techtember. This is the time when some of the most prominent names in the business, such as Microsoft, Samsung, and Amazon, unveil new devices that will propel the industry forward for the next few months. The upcoming launch of the Google Pixel 6 is one of my favorite events. It promises to be one, if certainly not the, most important Pixel event. It's not a mistake. I will be the first to line up (virtually) for one of these phones. (I love that lemon/lime-green one! Although I love the design of these phones, their size is a bit daunting. The Pixel 6 pro is a 6.71 inch display and the Pixel 6 regular has a 6.4 inch display. They're great for productivity and content consumption, but they can be cumbersome and hard to use for many. VPN Deals: Monthly plans starting at $1 and lifetime licenses for $16 respectively. The Pixel 4a is one of my favourite phones, which I attribute in large part to its size. This phone is perfect for me with its 5.81 inch display. It is large enough to read and write on, but small enough to not cause fatigue. It fits easily in my pocket. The Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5a were both larger than the originals. Google says it doesn't have be this way. You can still get great Android phones with small dimensions!

Apple and Samsung are the two biggest tech companies. Both have responded to a growing demand for smaller phones in recent years. This has been achieved by Samsung's fast-developing foldable product business. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the most talked about device, but the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be the one that sells more and is widely adopted. The Z Flip 3 is half the cost of the Z Fold 3. However, it is likely that consumers will prefer the familiar, portable clamshell design. It feels and looks like the old phones, and it can be carried in your pockets, purses, or hands. It's possible that small phones will become foldable in the future. Both Apple and Samsung have recognized the need for smaller phones. However, their approaches to it are very different. Apple has, at least so far, chosen to address this demand with smaller phones. Apple has been making large phones ever since the iPhone 6 was launched. However, a small minority of customers have been calling for the return of the small iPhone. After the launch of iPhone 6S in 2016, Apple launched the iPhone SE. In 2020, it will follow that model with another smaller (but still larger) iPhone SE. Apple's iPhone 12 mini was introduced last year. While it sold well, it was still a disappointment when compared to other iPhone 12 models. Many prognosticators had predicted that the iPhone 13 mini wouldn't be made. But, the leakers and analysts were wrong and we did get another small iPhone. If these giants feel it's worthwhile to address a minority of people who want smaller smartphones, should Google not at least consider bringing back the Pixel 3a and 4a form factors?
