Bill Maher schools Whoopi Goldberg on Black national anthem: 'Separate but equal' is out of step!

Bill Maher, "Real Time", host of "Real Time", reaffirmed his opposition to the Black national song and responded harshly to Whoopi Goldberg (host of "The View"), who criticised his argument.
Maher attacked the NFL earlier this month for including "Lift Every Voice And Sing," suggesting that he is open to a new national anthem for the U.S. but playing "The Star-Spangled Banner" alongside the Black national anthem at every football game is "segregation with a different name."

WHOOPI GOLDBERG KNOCKS BILL MAHER 'FOR COMPLAINING' ABOUT BLACK NATION ANTHEM: THIS IS NOT ABOUT BEING WOKED

Goldberg took issue with Maher's "complainings" in a discussion following his remarks.

Goldberg stated that "I believe because we have gone backwards for a good 10-15 year, we are having to re-educate individuals."

Maher returned to Friday's topic on Friday night and insisted to his viewers that his opinion, "we shouldn’t have two" national anthems, was the "correct opinion."

Maher stated that "The View" last week spent a lot time on this, while somehow avoiding my actual words." "It seemed to be all about me being educated about the Black national anthem." Whoopi Goldberg stated, quote: "We were having to re-educate everyone." Talking about re-education is a great idea because nothing can go wrong. Ask Chairman Mao. Perhaps we could set up some kind of camp."

The HBO star called himself an "old school liberal" and defended the "crazy idea that segregating by race was bad." He reiterated his belief that the United States should eliminate "The Star-Spangled Banner," but he strongly argued that there must be only one anthem, since it is a "national song."

"Symbols of unity are important. By deliberately dividing things by race, we reinforce the terrible message that two nations are drifting apart. It's not the place we were ten years ago, and it's certainly not where we should now," Maher said to his audience. They responded with applause.

Maher then showed a clip of Barack Obama, then-candidate for the United States of America. Maher said that there was no Black America or White America and that America is one country. He also stated that "where you should be now is here."

"Why not have three anthems if we already have two? Or five? Why not a women’s anthem A Latino anthem? An anthem for gay, trans and Indigenous Peoples. "I'm speaking to you, not with you" isn't a way to run a country. Most people from all backgrounds know that and won't try." Maher stated.

"I'm not out-of-step!" Believe in equal but separate? This is out of line -- by 67 year. It was in 1954 that the Supreme Court issued their landmark Brown v. Board of Education ruling. This ruling stated that "separate but equal" is not what we do here. We made the decision to work together.

Maher cited a survey that surveyed 173 colleges and found that 42% of them had segregated residences, while 72% offered segregated graduation ceremonies.

"Well, congratulations liberal parents. Maher jokingly said that your child had just paid 100 million to move to Biloxi in Mississippi in 1948. "It's a nation that values diversity. What if half of the dorm rooms in the children's dormitories are determined by their racial purity?

"Because of what's next?" What happens next? Separate dorms and anthems, ceremonies. cafes. gyms. separate neighborhoods. This was the red-lining! They refused to let Black people live where I grew-up. They did. That's why the word progressive is used. Nearly 80% of African Americans want to live in diverse neighborhoods.

The idea that two pots can't be combined is supported by the Black silent majority. Yes, America was created from slavery. Redress is possible but not at the expense of ruining a country where most Black people have settled down with a better standard of living. Balkanizing the nation will definitely cause us to lose.

"We must stop looking at this new woke segregation like some kind of cultural advancement. It is not. When they indulge in their separatist tendencies, countries can fall apart into madness. This includes Hutus killing Tutsis in Rwanda, Catholics, Protestants in Ireland, Sunnis, Shiites in Iraq and Hindus, Muslims in Kashmir, all of Afghanistan, and one Jew. "We need to unify as one nation and sing the same anthem, always in key," Maher said.
