Apple says an issue is preventing some animations from using high refresh rates on the iPhone 13 Pros

Apple's iPhone 13 line launched Friday. One of its key features, the 13 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max, are the ProMotion displays that have variable refresh rates and can reach 120Hz. 9to5Mac discovered that some third-party apps' app animations are only running at 60Hz. This might frustrate if you expected smooth animations in all your apps on the new iPhones. But Apple shared two possible reasons for this problem when we asked them.
Developers will have to update their apps to indicate that they use the higher refresh rates. Apple tells The Verge that this can be done by adding an entry in the apps plist. The company also says that it will soon share documentation on the entry you want to add. Apple states that animations created with Core Animation technology may be affected in certain cases. Apple promises to fix the issue in a forthcoming software update.

Variable refresh rate screens have many benefits. They offer smoother scrolling and animations when you're using the device. Additionally, they save battery life by running at lower refresh rates. The screens of the 13 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max were impressive in our review. It is good to know that third-party apps will be able take full advantage, though some might have to wait until the software update.
