LAS VEGAS -- UFC fighter Jon Jones was detained Friday morning by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. This happened just hours after his past UFC fight was inducted into UFC Hall of Fame.
According to Officer Larry Hadfield from the Las Vegas Metro PD, Jones is facing misdemeanor battery domestic abuse and injuring/tampering using a vehicle. According to online inmate records, he is currently being held at Clark County Detention Center. Jones is currently being held at Clark County Detention Center on $8,000 bail, according to records.
Hadfield stated that Jones was taken into custody at 5:45 a.m. on Friday at a resort close to Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road. Jones adviser Richard Schaefer said to ESPN's Mike Coppinger that the facts were still evolving, and we don't yet know all the details. So, until Jon has a chance to speak to me, I won't make any comment. Until then, we'll see how it plays out.
Jones, who is 34 years old, is considered to be the greatest UFC fighter. Jones held the UFC title for nine years and has never been defeated in the cage. The only loss in his career was a controversial disqualification. The native of Albuquerque in New Mexico has been in trouble multiple times beyond the Octagon. He was arrested for a felony hit and run and failed two drug tests.
Jones has been working hard to bulk up for his return at heavyweight and hopes to add the title to his collection. On Thursday night, Jones told ESPN that he was weighing 255 and wanted to increase his weight to 270 to make his UFC Hall of Fame debut at heavyweight. Jones' fight with Alexander Gustafsson in 2013 was inducted into UFC Hall of Fame Thursday night at Park MGM.
