Scott Brown has been succeeded by Callum McGregor as Celtic captain
Callum McGregor, Celtic's captain, has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the club through 2026.
McGregor, an Academy graduate, was already contracted until 2024. However, he has now agreed to extend his stay.
The 28-year old has won six league titles, four Scottish Cups, and four League Cups in 338 games with his first team, scoring 54 goals.
McGregor is a 37-year-old Scot and was the first to score in the Euro 2020 loss by Croatia.
At 21 years old, he made his Celtic debut. He scored in a 2014 Champions League qualifying match at KR Reykjavik. After that, he spent a season in England's third-tier with Notts County.
McGregor said that it was a proud moment once again. McGregor said, "The club is very dear to my heart. "I've been here for many years, I'm happy here. I love football and representing this club. I want to stay here as long as possible.
"This is a new chapter. I want to see the next five years. If I can do that, it means that it was a very successful time again."
Ange Postecoglou, Celtic manager, said McGregor "has shown outstanding qualities" since taking over in the summer.
The Australian stated that he embodies the values he is after. He understands the values we are trying to build, and on the field, he isn't just talking about them, he's actually living them and showing the behavior I expect leaders to display.
