Nintendo Direct: the biggest announcements and trailers

The latest Nintendo Direct revealed what Switch fans can expect in the near future, as part of preparations for busy holiday season. While we knew some of the major titles, such as new Metroid or Mario Party games, there were also a few surprises. These included a new Kirby game and an expansion to Switch Online. There was also a cast of stars for the Super Mario animated film. Here's the latest news if you missed the event.
Although it has been quite some time since the Super Mario movie was announced, Nintendo did have a lot of words to say. The film will release on December 21st 2022 and will star a large cast including Chris Pratt playing Mario, Charlie Day playing Luigi, Anya Taylor Joy as Peach, Seth Rogen portraying Donkey Kong and Jack Black as Bowser.

Both Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 games will be available on the Switch Online subscription service. It's part of an expansion package, which sounds like a premium tier. Nintendo has not yet announced pricing but promised that more information will be available soon.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be receiving a major update in November

The world of Animal Crossing New Horizons has been quiet, but Nintendo announced a major update to the Switch game. This could bring some life back into the virtual world. Although the update will not be available until November, Nintendo promises more information in October. However, it seems like we are finally getting the long-awaited cafe.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the next Kirby title. It transports the pinky cutie to a postapocalyptic land for some 3D action. It will be coming to the Switch next spring.

Bayonetta 3 was shown off in a long, detailed trailer that lasted nearly four minutes. Unfortunately, the game will not be released until 2022.

Monster Hunter Rise will be getting an expansion

Monster Hunter Rise, the Switch-exclusive action RPG, is getting a major expansion. This will include new monsters and new story elements. Sunbreak is the name of the expansion and will be available as paid DLC next summer.

The original Knights of the Old Republic can be played on the Switch. It's already available everywhere, but Nintendo's tablet will be an ideal home for the Star Wars RPG classic when it launches in November.

Nier is creating a card game

Yosuke and Yosuke Saido, Nier's masterminds, are tackling something completely different with their next project. The game is a card-based, role-playing game called Voice of Cards: The Island Dragon Roars. It will be available on the Switch starting October 28th.

Square Enix will take on Mario Kart

Square Enix, the company behind Final Fantasy announced Chocobo GP. It looks a lot like Mario Kart but with iconic characters from the FF universe, and twists such as magical spells. It will be available next year.
