The Nintendo Direct presentation today revealed that the upcoming Mario movie by Illuminations and Nintendo got a major update. It will be in theaters on December 21st 2022. Chris Pratt will voice Mario.
A star-studded cast will appear in the film, including Anya TaylorJoy as Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi. Jack Black as Bowser. Seth Rogan is Donkey Kong. Keegan-Michael Key plays Toad. Fred Armisen will play Cranky Kong. Charles Martinet, the voice actor who has played Mario in Nintendo's games for more than three decades, will be appearing in the film as a surprise cameo. Sebastian Maniscalco and Kevin Michael Richardson will also be in the film as Kamek.
The announcement of the Mario movie was made in 2018. There has been very little information about it since then.
Nintendo announced additional details about the film, including that it will be directed by Aaron Horvath (Teen Titans Go!). Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) with Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2 - The Second Part, and Minions - The Rise of Gru. Although there is no plot summary or title yet, we will likely be able to get more information about the film in the next few months.
