The Orville Finally Has a Season 3 Premiere Date on Its New Hulu Home

The good news is that the Orville has finally set a date for its return! It won't be until March 2022, the bad news. For those whod almost forgotten about the Seth MacFarlane sci-fi seriesa Star Trek riff that ended up carving out its own corner of the lovable-weirdos-in-space genrewell, thats not too surprising; the season two finale was all the way back in April 2019. The show moved from Fox to Hulu in the interim. However, then came the pandemic which caused the production to slow down exponentially. Finally, we have a date announcement and a brief teaser.


It is notable that Hulu has billed this as The Orville: New Horizons. This will be a weekly release and not a binge-drop. The first episode of season 3 will air Thursday, March 10, 2022. It doesn't seem like the show will undergo any major changes despite the name change; Hulus description seems like it will continue to keep going at its new home: Seth MacFarlane's epic space adventure series The Orville is back exclusively on Hulu Original Series. The Orville: New Horizons is set 400 years into the future and features the crew of U.S.S. Orville continues their exploration mission, as they navigate the mysteries of space and the complexity of their personal relationships.

It looks like the cast is the same: MacFarlane (Captain Ed Mercer), Adrianne Palaicki (Commander Kelly Grayson), Penny Johnson Jerald, Dr. Claire Finn), Scott Grimes, Lt. Gordon Molloy, Peter Macon (Lt. Commander Bortus), J. Lee (Lt. Commander John LaMarr), J. Lee (Lt. Hulu has added Anne Winters to the list, who will play Charly Burke, a new series regular. Orville fans will recall that the show featured Norm Macdonald's character, a gelatinous alien called Lieutenant Yaphit. There is no word on how the show might honor the late actor.

MacFarlane shared the teaser via Twitter, but there was not much else. We will likely get a trailer and more information as the release date nears. We'll keep you updated as soon as we can.
