Kayleigh McEnany, former White House press secretary and Fox News contributor, deleted a tweet in which she blamed President Joe Biden on a rise in U.S. deaths that happened under her former bosses, then-President Donald Trump.

Brian Stelter, CNN's correspondent noted that McEnany quoted from Lachlan Markay's Thursday morning post. She highlighted a New York Times graphic that showed a significant increase in US murders in 2020 and shared it with her 1.1million followers.

She wrote: "The U.S. Murder Rate under Joe Biden ..."" about the graphic, before she deleted the tweet, probably after realizing that Trump was president in that year.

The Times article and graphic were based on data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report. It showed that the number of American murders increased by almost 30 percent between 2019 and 2020.

This stat is the highest year-over-year rise in murders since the FBI started collecting data on murders. It also surpasses the 1968 record of 12.7 per cent.

The murder rate in the United States, measured by the number murders per 100,000 inhabitants, is still lower than its all-time high in the 1990s.

According to The Times, 77% of murders committed in 2020 with firearms were. However, overall crime has slightly decreased.

McEnany was the press secretary for the Trump presidency from April 2020 until the end. He was often accused of lying or stretching the truth.

McEnany, before becoming press secretary, wrongly predicted that diseases such as the coronavirus would not be brought to this country.

McEnany lied at least five times to the media during her tenure. These included about Trump's downplaying of COVID-19 (he did), the crowd size for a proTrump march and whether Trump was first to place a red ribbon on White House for World AIDS Day. He wasn't.
