Louis Riddick shares his view on why Tom Brady parted ways with Bill Belichick, the Patriots. (1:35).
FOXBOROUGH (Mass.) Alex Guerrero (personal trainer to Tom Brady) stated that Patriots coach Bill Belichick had "never changed" how he treated Brady, which contributed to Brady's departure in 2020, after 20 seasons in New England.
"It was almost as if Bill never really understood... Guerrero said Wednesday that he believes his emotions and feelings never changed with age. "As Tom grew older, or in his 40s, I believe Bill tried to continue treating him as the 20-year old kid he drafted. All the players realized Tom was different, I believe. He is older and should be treated differently. All the players would not have noticed that he was treated differently.
"I believe that was such a Bill thing. He never evolved. You can't treat someone in their 40s as if they were 20. It doesn't work.
Guerrero's comments came more than one week before the most anticipated game of the NFL season, when Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers host Belichick's Patriots.
The Buccaneers (2-0), who will host the Los Angeles Rams (2-2) in a battle between top NFC teams, and the Patriots (1-1) hosting the New Orleans Saints (1-1) on Sunday, have put the spotlight on the Brady-Belichick dynamic.
"People could have made other choices and could have rode together into the sunset." Guerrero said that it could have been an interesting story, and that the Boston Herald should be proud.
Guerrero spoke out about Brady's return to face Patriots in the first time since March 2020's departure as a free agent. He said that he and I had spent a lot time together and haven't really spent much time discussing Week 4. We have spent a lot time talking about the week and trying to keep our eyes on that.
"But... "But... It's been a long time since I was there. It's exciting to be there, feel it, and feel the energy. It's going be exciting.
