A simple, tube-shaped 4D printed robot can move uphill and carry a load. It can also navigate in an unpredictable landscape.
The robot was designed by Wei Feng, a student at Tianjin University in China, and his collaborators. It is made from a rectangular flat sheet of 3D-printed liquid elastomer. The sheet will self-assemble when heated to 160C.
The researchers refer to this as a 4D-printed robotics.
