Moselle Open: Andy Murray beats Vasek Pospisil to reach quarter-finals

Andy Murray is aiming for his first ATP Tour win since October 2019's success at the European Open, Antwerp

Andy Murray beat Vasek Pospisil from Canada to reach the quarter-finals at the Moselle Open in France.

34-year-old British ex-world number one won 6-3 6-3 to tie with either France's Lucas Pouille of France or Hubert Hurkacz from Poland.

Murray stated, "I haven't played as many tournaments for a while and I feel good about it."

"I am gaining confidence and watching the points grow. My tennis is improving and the results are already visible.

Murray won a set and defeated Ugo Humbert, world number 26, 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the first round.

Murray is ranked 113th worldwide and will be making his Metz debut for the second time after reaching the final in 2007.

Murray beat Humbert, the highest-ranked player in this season's rankings. He then won against Pospisil (66th) in the rankings.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam winner, has won victories in 684 tour level matches after undergoing two hip surgeries in the last three years.
