Gersson Rosas has been elected president of basketball operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Sources tell ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that Sachin Gupta will be promoted to the Timberwolves' executive vice-president of basketball operations and will take over as interim head of basketball operations. Sources said that the team will conduct a wider search for a permanent replacement.
Glen Taylor, owner of the Wolves, announced Wednesday that the team was moving. He stated that the Wolves are "remain committed in building a winning team that can be proud of by our fans."
Sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne & Zach Lowe that Rosas' firing caught players and other employees by surprise. Sources said Rosas was still attending meetings and was seen in the gym Wednesday morning.
Rosas, a former Houston Rockets executive was hired by Minnesota in May 2019. He is now the highest-ranking Latino in front-office positions.
Rosas' tenure saw the Wolves finish near the bottom in the Western Conference both seasons. They went 19-45 in 2019-20, and 23-49 in last season.
